A Minute Message from Pastor; “Don’t be caught dead NEXT to Jesus” Now that I got your attention, let me explain. In preparing my Easter message about the two thieves hanging next to Jesus on the cross something became apparent to me that I’d never given much thought to before. Although they {the thieves} had several things in common, there was one glaring difference. To start with they BOTH probably had heard stories about Jesus and maybe even met him, this could be the reason that in the beginning we find them both mocking Jesus along with the crowd, BOTH were close to Jesus, BOTH listened to him, and at the end of the day they Both died. Now here is the glaring difference, “one died WITH Jesus and the other just died NEXT to Jesus”. In this account we are shown that it’s not enough to see, hear, or know about Jesus. It’s also more than just being close to Jesus. HANGING around Jesus like the one thief {pun intended} is not enough, you need a relationship with him. It takes believing in him, asking for forgiveness and accepting him as your Lord + Savior. This thief was so close, yet so far. His salvation was literally within arm’s reach. Your eternity is in the balance, don’t be caught dead NEXT to Jesus, be caught WITH JESUS!
