A Mombasa court yesterday refused to grant bond to alleged ivory - TopicsExpress

A Mombasa court yesterday refused to grant bond to alleged ivory kingpin Feisal Mohammed. The prosecution told the court Mohamed had been a fugitive and might vanish if released on bond. Assistant DPP Alexander Muteti said Mohamed is a powerful man, who if released, might never again appear in court. “If the accused person is granted bond, he will leave the country,” he said. Muteti said Mohamed has great influence since he evaded arrest in a foreign country for six months. Mohamed was arrested in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on December 22 by Interpol. On December 26, he was charged with being in possession of 314 elephant tusks without a license. The case will be heard on January 9. - See more at: the-star.co.ke/news/alleged-ivory-trader-stay-custody#sthash.wzgwje7b.XHjo3W8e.dpuf
