A Month of Saturdays Prior to the weekend leading to that - TopicsExpress

A Month of Saturdays Prior to the weekend leading to that morning, Ehimofe had painted a picture of a fulfilled life in her troubled Cinderella-like mind - that Dreams coming true eventually type. It is important to her that Jide finally becomes a father. He has longed waited for this news. Although the doctor had told her she was two months pregnant, she kept the news from her husband. Notwithstanding, she needed to go for a scan that morning because shed had terrible cramps in her belly; and over the weekend when she perceived she was bleeding, she assumed it was a fluke period and thus entertained light doubts. It must have been stress, she thought. But Ehimofe is a vibrant and sturdied young lady. Now, it happened that Ehimofe had started life a bit late and this was due to strings of interrupted hostile academic pursuits; also, her mother had tarried for long too. So it was important for Ehimofe to have gone for her check ups. Moreover, Jides mother is aged too and not the one known to be happy with delays present in her last sons matrimonial home. Last sons are usually the most favoured among siblings and if he was the last child, the bigger his treats even become. Jide happened to be his mothers little boy and had begun to show discomforting signs, waves after waves, over issues with having a grandchild such that even Ehimofes poor mother could barely tolerate any more delays after now. However, Ehimofe came back from her scan visit and remained in the car oblivious to spending 4 unaccountable hours lost in thoughts of what her mother would say or how she would feel if she mentioned this new news. She thought about all her friends who were genuinely happy for her again at the news of her pregnancy. She also thought about her mother and her own friends too. She thought about the series of checkout baskets on various online baby shops shed found before now and thought about the room shed booked a baby room decorator for. She thought about going into the house and wishing her mother was asleep - very deep sleep. Ehimofe remembered that her mother and Jides mother had agreed earlier, on hearing the initial good baby news, that they wont mention it to Jide until he gets back. Phew! She sighed as she vacuumed in a deep breathe, came out of the car and went into the house. Ehimofes mother opened the door and with one intelligent glance into her daughters eyes she could tell what storm had been brewing. Its going to be a month of Saturdays, she perceived. She scurried towards Ehimofe with opened arms like shed done decades ago when Ehimofe was in distress; and even though the old womans wrinkly hands could barely hold a spoon still; still, nothing else was powerful enough to cushion Ehimofes falling face as unrehearsed tears flooded her eroding made-up cheeks. Mama, Ehimofe wailed, mamaaa, I have lost it again oooo, mama! - Aburo (inspired from a failed Job interview today) #greenvocabs
