A Mothers Day message to my mom: Im my moms number one fan, even when it doesnt seem that way. At times, its obvious we dont have much in common, and there are times Ive wondered if maybe there was a mistake at the hospital; maybe she was given the wrong kid. There are times I thought she completely didnt get me. Im pretty sure she has the same thoughts about me from time to time. In other words, we have more in common than we think. Every now and then, I catch a rare glimpse of her, not as my mom, but as a woman who can diagnose a fever by putting her cheek against someones forehead, a woman that works hard, but makes it look easy. I see a woman who teaches invaluable life lessons from what she does flawlessly as well as from her mistakes. I see a woman that not only care for her children, but also cares about them, sometimes maybe a bit too much; but, its the only way she knows how to be a mother. Hearing the words I love you is life affirming and sensing youve disappointed her can feel like a punch to the gut. She is larger than life in my eyes, her soul is pure and her hugs reminds me what safety feels like. I love her more than I can ever express. But, Ill try... Mom, I truly hope that one day I can make you as proud of me as I am of you. I pray that I too will have the opportunity be a mom. One that will love her kids, teach them the most important lessons of life, hold them, kiss them, and occasionally drive them up the wall, just like you do. Thank you for being my mom. Thank you for setting my place at the table with chopsticks that Thanksgiving when I was going through my everything must be eaten with chopsticks phase. Thank you for telling me to keep sweet. Thank you for teaching me how to sew. Thank you for loving me. I love you too. Your daughter, -Angelique
