A Mothers Delight: On the Road to Selma Today I saw the movie Selma. It was a powerful and humbling experience. For me, Selma gave me the chance to revisited a time in American where ordinary people united to expose and effect social injustice. It took me back to a place in OUR collective narrative where humanity outweighed hate, where bravery uprooted brutality, and where nonviolence protest defeated nightmarish persecution. The movie Selma highlights the best of our higher angels, to be sure, but never allows us to forget our capacity to commit unspeakable devilish acts. It also emphasizes the notion that every generation in our nation will face struggles as it continue the glorious work of forging a more perfect union. This is both the gift and great burden Selma bestows upon us today. Freedom is indeed NOT free. It requires each of us to do our part. May we stand up and speak out when it counts most, so that the DREAM embodied by Selma will never die!
