A Movement for ImageDemocratic Change supporter Monica Chivhera had her grass thatched hut set ablaze early on Friday morning in a suspected politically motivated arson case. Her homestead is situated about 44 kilometer north-west of Karoi town under Chief Kazangarare. The meandering dusty road leading to her homestead testifies her ordeal in the hands of her opponents who have left her with nothing including food, clothes, fertilizer and groceries. She has five kids to look after. Relating the bad omen that has befallen her again, Mbuya Chivhera says, ‘’I was force-marched to a Zanu PF meeting on Thursday afternoon. We were forced to chant Zanu PF slogans. I was the last one who did not denounce President Morgan Tsvangirai as they wanted. Instead I denounced intolerance amongst us. I said ‘’Pamberi neMDC’’. This irked them’’ she says in Shona, her voice breaking up battling to keep back tears flowing down her cheeks. The meeting was addressed by headman Muoneka, Oliver Chikanda, Jack Masamba and Wilberforce Zvekanyi. She lost several goods worth thousands of dollars including 8 bags of maize, a wardrobe, 20 bags of fertilizer, blankets, a bicycle among other household goods. ‘’I am a widow and have nothing to feed my family. Even the tent that I got from Red Cross in 2008 was also burnt. Whoever did this has no human face’’ she says. Linos Mugwandarikwa brother to late Tapiwa killed in 2008 politically motivated murder says it is unfortunate. ‘’The action is unwarranted as both leaders are preaching peace ahead of harmonized elections. The suspects are well known, we wait for police to take action’’ Mugwandarikwa said. However headman Richardson Dzenge bemoaned the division among some villagers here. ‘’I am disappointed. We must be tolerant to each other regardless of our political differences. The victim is not a strong MDC-T member who can motivate others to change their party. She is just a victim of some people with weaker minds. They are politically immature’’ said headman Dzenge. Zanu PF candidate for Hurungwe North Reuben Marumahoko complained that no arrests have been made when a huts of branch chairman of Murehwa district Paradzai Mureya was gutted on 18 July. ‘’People must desist from all forms of violence ahead of elections’’ said Marumahoko. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemency Mabgweazara said he was still yet to get a report of the case. ‘’We are dealing with election cases. I am still yet to get such report’’ said the police spokesperson in a telephone interview. Marumahoko will face MDC-T’s Albert Chitaunhike and Gladys Gwamada of MDC led by Welshman Ncube. theweeklymirror.wordpress/2013/07/27/hut-set-ablaze-over-mdc-slogan/
