A N G E R **Umaru Dikko’s family is angry with PDP, says associate Isyaku Ibrahim Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim emerged asa national figure in the First Republic when he was only 21 years old. Now 75 years old, close friend of Alhaji Umaru Dikko and a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Ibrahim has since jettisoned the party for what he describes as the indiscipline that now reigns there. He condemns the announcement by the PDP leadership of Alhaji Umaru Dikko, former Minister of Transport in the Second Republic as an embarrassment to the Dikko family. Q: You are close to the former Minister of Transport, Alhaji Umaru Dikko, who the PDP recently appointed as chairman of its Disciplinary Committee. Alhaji Dikko himself has been unavailable for comments on his appointment. Would you say the old man has accepted the appointment? A: The PDP is not being fair to Umaru Dikko. They did not respect him and they did not have the decency to find out what his physical condition is before appointing him the chairman of their Disciplinary Committee. Umaru Dikko has been ill. He was at the National Hospital in Abuja before he was taken to London for further treatment. He is not even the country now. Nobody in the party has the decency to inform his family before the announcement. This is why his son, Dr. Bello was mad with the announcement. Even if he was well, he needed to be contacted to know whether he would agree to the appointment or not. But they didn’t do that. They just felt he was there for them to toy with. This is the attitudinal problem of the PDP. Q: Umaru Dikko is not a name that rings a bell in the PDP. Is he? A: He is not really in the PDP. Well, he told me at a time that he was in the PDP. Then I told him that “it is when the party is dying that you are joining the PDP. I left the PDP two years ago and now you are joining it.” We just made a joke about it. But I don’t believe he is really a PDP member. But no matter what, if you are nominating somebody for an appointment, discipline demands that you tell him. He may have his own problems, or reasons not to accept it. He may not even have the time. There was a time I was discussing with General Muhammadu Buhari and there was this committee on which he wanted me to serve. He sounded me out and I said, “No, I can’t do it, because I cannot abandon my poor house to go and sit down talking about politics.” That was decency. But in Umaru Dikko’s case, they just announced his name, they didn’t bother about his condition. The man is seriously sick and receiving treatment in London. Would they be waiting for him for how many weeks to come back? And how sure are they that even when he comes back, he would accept the appointment? This is why the family is not happy with the situation. I am calling on the PDP that from now, they have to learn how to organise themselves and learn how to treat people with a high degree of decency. Q: But the PDP top leadership must have sat down to discuss the choice of Umaru Dikko as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee…? A: They sat down to seriously discuss it? I doubt it. Maybe someone just mentioned Umaru Dikko’s name and they all shouted, “yes, yes, yes,” and announced his name without consulting him. That is how the PDP operates. They are not serious-minded, because if they were serious-minded people, if they had sat down to deliberate on the choice of Umaru Dikko, they would have delegated one of them to find out, in the first place, where Umaru Dikko is. After locating him, they would then ask,“Sir, would you like to serve in this committee?” But they didn’t! This attitude of name-calling shows how totally disorganised the PDP is. They just went ahead to announce his name without consulting him or his people and went on to embarrass his family. Q: What would you say informed PDP’s sudden constitution of a Disciplinary Committee and the choice of Umaru Dikko as its chairman? A: The PDP, which has lost its focus, it is in total disarray. After being in charge of government at the centre for 14 years, all the structures of government have totally collapsed. The PDP is talking about discipline when its leadership has no discipline. ~Moses Einstein Felix Deception is suicidal: a livery of self-folly ***************************** Feel Free to COMMENT, SHARE/Tag your friends.
