A NEW STUDY!! Do you have more than one dog in the same household? We need you! Is your dog more empathic or selfish towards other dogs? We will conduct two different experiments, in which your dog will be tested with a partner. This partner will be another dog (very familiar or from the same house). In both experiments, your dog will have a choice between two options: (i) get a reward only for itself or (ii) simultaneously provide a reward to his partner as well. This last option is called “pro-social behaviour”, defined as any behaviour performed by one individual to provide another’s need or improve their wellbeing. In an attempt to reveal the evolutionary origins of cooperative behaviours, it’s relevant to figure out if dogs have learned to be pro-social during domestication. The training will be relaxed and fun, and will consist of pulling a rope to have access to the reward and/or touching different objects with their nose to release the food.
