A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION PROPOSAL In 2014, I made only one New - TopicsExpress

A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION PROPOSAL In 2014, I made only one New Years Resolution, and I KEPT it. I began using the Orthodox Christian fasting schedule, and reading the Orthodox daily Scripture & Prayer liturgy. (Theres an app for that!) Following this most ancient Christian tradition allows me to stand with or to stand in for the Persecuted Orthodox Christians in Moslem-held lands. In preparation for Pascha (Easter), I realized that I need to start fasting from the Internet, (I also imposed a TV news blackout and took only family phone calls) one day a week. Its my way of remembering the Sabbath and keeping it holy. As Pastors, I cant always take Sundays off. Chaplains cant schedule emergencies. But we CAN block out the distractions one day each week. It has done WONDERS for my psyche and for my overall Spirituality! It has broken a writers block that has burdened me for years. I have written prolifically this year: in 2014, I wrote more essays and sermons than in the previous 3 years combined! As Pastors, Chaplains and Ministers and devout believers, we serve the Lord every day. But sometimes we can get so busy doing things FOR The Lord that we neglect spending time WITH The Lord! So, as we approach New Years Eve, I encourage all of you to resolve to follow the Orthodox Christian Liturgy, and to unplug one day a week. This time next year, youll be very glad you did! P.S. - I am NOT suggesting converting to Orthodox Christianity: Merely, that we stand in the gap to offer the prayers they no longer can! https://m.youtube/watch?v=ljA08GZ615g
