A NOTE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER: Greetings again Families and Friends of DEVASTATOR! A quick update on your IRON MEN: DEVASTATOR is a full-fledged asset for our FIFTH Fleet Commander! Since my last note, your IRON MEN performed well at sea in interoperability Mine Countermeasures Exercises, POSEIDON ASSURANCE and SQUADEX, with our fellow US MCMs and Royal Navy partner ships. These beneficial exercises allow us to sharpen our skills as a Force and maintain the highest state of operational readiness in mine warfare tactics. We also hosted two Distinguished Visitors: Rear Admiral Loeblein (Deputy Commander, Naval Forces Central Command and FIFTH Fleet) had lunch onboard and delivered a regional update to the Crew followed by Q&A … and the Head of the Iraqi Navy toured the Ship during his familiarization visit to Bahrain. During the past month, your IRON MEN focused on strengthening the foundation of material readiness of DEVASTATOR established in the spring. From preventative maintenance of our gear to the supporting administrative paperwork, our Team dedicated hours to continue the steady strain required to always be “Mission Ready”! Our Family of Professional Sailors had the opportunity to sign up for college courses and map out academic plans for the future. The NAVY College Representative at Naval Support Activity Bahrain was thoroughly excited to see the motivation and passion for higher education displayed by your IRON MEN. To date, 25% of the Crew has taken placement exams and/or are enrolled in courses. Well done to the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Committee and Junior Enlisted Associations for ensuring we stick to the motto of WORK HARD, PLAY HARD … Swim Call, TRIAD for a Day, Charity Hair Give (or Grow!) Away, Calzone Night, BBQ and Bowling have all been a huge hit this month! As always, thank you to all of you, our Families and Friends, for your continued words of love, encouragement, and support!
