A NSW Fair Trading warning has just come through: Master Electricians Australia (MEA) has today advised home owners not to buy any Infinity branded electrical cable following a government warning they could cause fire and electric shock. NSW Fair Trading have raised concerns regarding the safety of all Infinity branded TPS or “orange round” electrical cable since conducting significant testing of the products. The public warning of all Infinity products follows the company’s voluntary recall in August 2013 of three of its particular cable batches sold at Masters Home Improvement stores. Since the recall Infinity has announced insolvency. In a statement Fair Trading said “the test results concluded there were deficiencies in the manufacturing of Infinity cables”. “The deterioration of the insulation on the cables over time could cause wires to become exposed and potentially result in an electrical shock or fire. “Unused Infinity cables should be returned to the place of purchase by electricians, where they will be entitled to refunds on any unused cabling they have purchased.” The Federal Government’s Recall website recalls.gov.au states the Infinity electrical cable has been sold at Masters Home Improvement from April 2012 to August 2013.
