A Never-Ending Climb Im not a fan of religion! I wasnt honest enough with the last statement. I profoundly dislike religion. Let me explain what I mean. I define religion as humanitys attempt to reach up and earn Gods acceptance, love and blessings through good behavior or by keeping a specific set of religious principles or laws. In historic biblical context this is called works-based righteousness Religion or works-based righteousness, paints a picture of a God sitting atop a high peak, waiting for us to scale the mountain through our good behaviors or adherence to religious principles. The more good we do the closer we come to approaching out God. If we do something bad however, the god on top of the mountain turns Zeus like and throws a lightning bolt to strike us and knock us back down the mountain. After the electric shock wears off and our singed hair stops smoking, we dust ourselves off, pull ourselves by our bootstraps and start treking all over again -Derwin L Gray Ephesians 2:3-7 ... among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
