A New Approach to Unemployment in the Long Run Since the - TopicsExpress

A New Approach to Unemployment in the Long Run Since the worldwide financial crash in 2008, beginning with the collapse of Lehman brothers, unemployment has not recovered not just in the US but around the world. A major consequence of this is that birth rates world wide have dropped significantly. Worker production is down. The expenses of child rearing and economic uncertainty account for the drop. Like employment, birth rates have likewise not recovered. This will ease pressures on our planet and its resources, but it does not auger well for world economies. Much economic growth is fueled not by working harder or smarter but by simple population growth. We can expect significant economic stagnation worldwide from the falling birth rates if they continue. However, fewer future workers could ease long run unemployment relative to no change in birth rates, but this is hardly a silver lining.
