A New Year always starts off with an array of promises and resolutions, made hastily after the overindulgence of the holidays, which will all be forgotten like a whimsical fairy tale when you return to your normal routine within the next few weeks. As many of us will inevitably fail at our New Year’s resolution or simply forget about it, should we even bother making the resolutions in the first place? Resolutions are a form of cultural procrastination in the tiring journey to reinvent oneself. This year let us not torture ourselves with unrealistic goals and at the same time not fool ourselves by making false promises. If the resolution is something worthwhile that you wish to change, then why wait until the start of January to make the resolution? Don’t wait to act on them, act now, reinvent yourself and be steps ahead of the myriad of people lethargically following an ideal only to stop when they’re tired, lazy or something gets too hard. Instead of saying that you’re going to work on evolving into the person you want to be in the New Year, why not actually put all your time, energy and effort into something and continuously do it for the rest of your existence? Stop with all these “New Year” resolutions, and start with “Every Day” goals. It’s a lot easier to commit to small-level change than a complete life overhaul. Cheers.
