A New York homeless man named Mark had his service dog, Athena, - TopicsExpress

A New York homeless man named Mark had his service dog, Athena, stolen from him two months ago. People pitched in to search and recently Athena was sighted in Philly. She ended up at ACCT Philly and her photo was posted on their Urgent page. Local rescue angels went to the shelter to see if it was the missing dog and a microchip proved her to be one and the same. They contacted Mark, sent him bus fare and then took Athena shopping for food, sweaters and warm coats. The reunion speaks for itself. And to those who question the sanity of sending Athena back out to live with Mark on the streets, here’s what the rescue angel (who also happens to be mom to Aladdin Nation) had to say: “As a dog lover it was very difficult to send Athena to live on the streets in this freezing weather. It broke my heart, but there was absolutely no denying that she belongs with Mark. I am committed to helping them. I will be sending packages every other week of food and things for her and he knows if the weather gets to cold that I will come and get her and keep her with me for as long as he needs.”
