A Non Governmental Organization Disburses N17Million as Bursary to Students of Tertiary Institutions in 7 Years. HASAD Development Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization in Mokwa has so far disbursed N17Million as bursary to students of Mokwa extraction in Higher Institutions of Learning across the country since 2007. The founder of the foundation and Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Adamu Usman disclosed this at the 7th year anniversary of the foundation in Mokwa, Headquarters of Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State. A total number of 1,185 students drawn from the nooks and crannies of the local government had so far benefitted from the bursary award. The Speaker said he was motivated to establish the foundation out of his genuine desire to assist the youths, as leaders of tomorrow, to actualize their dreams by first assisting them in the area of education, skills acquisition and empowerment. He disclosed that he had assisted members of his constituency directly and through the foundation and had also intervened in the areas of health agriculture and community development in various communities within his constituency in other to give them a sense of belonging. In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Mohammed Bashir Nuhu Congratulated the Speaker for impacting positively on the life of his people especially the youths and urged him not to relent. The Commissioner noted that the bursary award would go a long way to assist the indigent students of the area to complete their studies adding that the gesture was a huge investment in the future of the beneficiaries ion particular and the local government in general. Dr. Mohammed Bashir Nuhu enjoined the beneficiaries not to divert the money for other purposes and also called on them to be serious with their education in other to justify the investments made on them by the foundation and the state government.
