A Note from Ambassador John Berry: It’s International Space Week – a great time to celebrate more than 50 years of U.S.-Australia cooperation in space! The Canberra Deep Space Communications Centre, an essential part of @NASA’s Deep Space Network, is a symbol of all the thi...ngs we can do when we work on the cutting edge together. Recently, Australian engineers and technicians working here played a critical role in confirming the successful arrival of NASAs MAVEN and the India Space Research Organisations Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) spacecraft into Mars orbit. In other space news, the United States and Australia are among the nations working on an International Code of Conduct for Outer Space Activities to promote responsible behavior. We’re improving the performance of the U.S. Space Surveillance Network, which provides public information on the orbits of satellites and space debris. And we’re working on a project that would allow us reduce the amount of space debris orbiting the planet, reducing the risk of damage to avoid collisions with expensive – and vital – satellites. What do you think our cooperation in space will look like 50 years from now? cdscc.nasa.gov/Pages/Archive/MVN_MOM_MOI/MVNMOM_MOIs.html
