A PERFECT SOCIETY (A MEASURE OF MAN) - One aspect of a perfect - TopicsExpress

A PERFECT SOCIETY (A MEASURE OF MAN) - One aspect of a perfect society is equality but it doesnt have to be that everyone has the same of everything. At the very least, everyone needs to be able to strive for everything equally. Take a poker tournament for example. You and all other poker players start with the same amount of chips and have the same chance of winning the tournament. How you prepare beforehand is up to you and how you play your cards is up to you. This creates a scenario that if you happen to lose, you wont have animosity towards the other players but you would if, for example, the pit boss gave him extra chips here and there legally (meaning the pit boss can give him chips if he wants to). This would make the game unfair. Life is exactly like this. Humans measure themselves against other humans to find out where they stand in life. If all humans were in prison, prison wouldnt seem so bad. It would just be a part of life since, for some reason, we are born and raised in prison. If all humans were rich (if that was even possible), then we would be much harder on ourselves but since all humans arent rich, the rich feel great about themselves since they are doing better than others. Everything you feel about yourself is relative to how well others are doing in life. This being said, the major problem in society (in 2014) is that the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle class continues to diminish. Some of the rich are born into their wealth and its relatively easy to maintain all that wealth if one actively pursues to do so. Many didnt start from scratch but if we lived in a society that if we followed a series of steps we would be financially well off and that the economy didnt favor the rich, then we would be on an equal economic playing ground. The bottom line is that humans favor an equal playing ground where nothing matters except for effort. Humans want to feel that if they are too put enough effort in, they can live good lives and if they dont put any effort in, they may live poor lives. A perfect society is where effort and reward are 100% correlated. X amount of effort = X amount of reward. 2x effort = 2x reward. This is how the human psyche works in the social level. At the same time it is noteworthy that those who, from whatever way, are rich dont care about the equality as much because being rich and comparing those riches against the general population is one hell of a rewarding feeling.
