A PHILOSOPHY OF PRAYER: A DEFINITION AND A DESCRIPTION. I am an Atheist who believes that prayer works. What I believe prayer is, is why I believe prayer works. Prayer to me should not not just be wishful talk in reference to someone regarding whatever difficulties theyre facing, with or without their knowledge. That is a beautiful thing to do but its impotent, logic dictates. To me prayer is voluntary, unremunerated active work or effort towards the eradication or at least the alleviation of someones suffering. To give emotional support, to be charitable and to share resources is the best definition of prayer for me. People must refrain from mere lip service and instead lend a hand in order to pray. Take someone to hospital, buy them shoes, groceries or some clothing items. Hell pay for their education if you can. Its the best way to alleviate poverty in this world.
