A PLEA for CLARITY: Earlier today, it became necessary to block someone I mistakenly assumed could be a Facebook friend. This person intentionally misrepresented what I had posted in a different feed and then lied about me in a separate post. I was shocked! I know I should not have been so shocked..but I was truly shocked. I realize that many people who do not read carefully or well, or who have some underlying and subversive agenda probably should not respond to my posts. We, in America, enjoy freedom of expression, but some misunderstand that concept to mean that it is perfectly alright not merely to say almost anything, but also to misquote, or misstate the ideas of others. Facebook is a social forum. It has a value as a place where informal conversations and observations on sometimes compelling topics may occur. This is a potentially valuable social tool. However, this designation does not mean that a posting is an invitation to lie about, misrepresent, decontextualize, re-contextualize, deceive or misrepresent the ideas of others. Certainly I consistently attempt to avoid such behaviors myself. If, I mistakenly fall into an inappropriate misinterpretation of someones idea, I am happy to apologize and begin again. Interpreting a sentence and misrepresenting the sense of a sentence entirely are very different things. Some people, evidently, would like to be correspondents..but do not have adequate tools to engage with every question. This is just how life is. We are not the same. A limited, political dogmatic, who cannot understand the difference between the examination of a series of circumstances and an established conclusion regarding those circumstances probably ought to avoid offering any messages to me. That person is not CAPABLE of properly understanding me. Of course, this is merely a suggestion. We are in an open forum. My true Facebook friends will understand. As for the commentaries of sadly confused people…well..they are confused and I will probably abandon them and evade their commentary. I do not undertake to disabuse the conceptually tenebrated of their hapless ineptitude regarding an adequacy of cerebral processing. Each of us is responsible for his or her own metacognitive challenges. Sorry all, I just wanted to get that off of my metaphorical posting chest…thanks to the readers who are readers for actually reading! As for the liars..and fools..please..please..just stay away. Thanks.
