His government must reverse course, stop the wildlife slaughter, abandon threats to the Serengetii and other areas, and protect the heritage it inherited on behalf of the Tanzanian people and the world. According to the Chairman of the Tanzania Parliamentary Committe for Land, Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. James Lembeli, the poacher received 15 years in jail. Surprisingly he got a Presidential pardon after eight months only. The poacher was arrested because the killing of one of the five eastern black rhinos brought from South Africa in 2010 that were released in the North of Serengeti. The five rhinos were received with much fanfare and the President of Tanzania himself travelled to the Serengeti to witness to offloading of them from the aircraft upon arrival from South Africa. Why did the President give a Presidential pardon to the poacher?
