A PSALM FOR GIVING THANKS... 1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Psalm 100:1-3 I don’t know about you, but sometimes in my busyness, I can neglect to give thanks. My prayer times can be heavy on requests and light on thanksgiving. Our passage today is a great reminder and has some important instruction. Let’s break it down. Shout for joy to the Lord. Heartfelt thanksgiving involves a gratitude that cannot be held back or held in. If we shout for joy when our favorite team scores the winning touchdown, how much more should we loudly express the emotion that comes with experiencing the living God at work in our life? Worship the Lord with gladness. Worship is not comprised of singing a few songs at the weekend service. Demonstrating that God is worthy of my adoration is something I must do all day every day. Demonstrating our love for the eternal God is not to be done with a “frowny face” but with great gladness. Come before him with joyful songs. My dad used to say that he “couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.” I’m in the same boat. But God is not concerned about the tune of my voice; he’s focused on the tune of my heart. God made us to sing joyful songs from the depth of our being. If you’re like me, find a place where no one can hear you and belt out some praises! Know that the Lord is God…. We belong to the One and Only Maker of heaven and earth who loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for our sins. Because of Jesus “we are his people”! That truth alone deserves a shout for joy, joyful worship, and the singing of some joyful songs! ~~The Journey Devotional~~
