A Pittsburgh-area first-grader was suspended this week for bringing a toy gun to school—even though, when he discovered the toy gun in a bag he doesnt usually use, the student immediately turned it in to his teacher because he knew he wasnt supposed to have it. School officials immediately suspended the 7-year-old, who faces a disciplinary hearing today and could receive a penalty as severe as expulsion, under school policy. Do you feel as outraged as we do by this response? Zero-tolerance school discipline policies like these, which dont differentiate between real threats and honest mistakes that have no impact on school safety, must be brought to an end in this country. triblive/neighborhoods/yourallekiskivalley/yourallekiskivalleymore/6233750-74/simak-toy-gun#axzz33lrwPtyQ
