A Post Veterans Day thought... America, as a society has come a long way since the Vietnam days, when it comes to the way we perceive our military people sent to fight our wars. Over the last decade, I have encountered members of a certain contingent of ideological right-wingers who still view the world through the lens of 1968, believing that we anti-war, liberal, pacifists still spit on our returning soldiers and call them baby killers, the fact is, while we liberals deplore war, we support our troops. IMO, more so than the conservatives do. We lefties believe that We the People should be doing more for our returning veterans, while the right-wing pats themselves on the back for pushing them off on private sector organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project. (An organization that I wholeheartedly support, by the way.) As Michael Kempster commented, One of the most infuriating, and obvious, examples of Wombats law of rightie policy--the government must never, ever appear competent, efficient or actually helping people--is the way Republicans actively sabotage or underfund the VA medical system, and then call for moving it all into the private sector, which, to say the least, offers problems in cost, access and quality of care of its own. So, for a couple of minutes, lets set the WayBack Machine to 1968 and enjoy a good, old fashioned, anti-war song, from Country Joe and the Fish....
