A Press Note issued by Punjab State Committee of CPI(M) . Com. S. Ramachandran Pillai, Polit Bureau member CPI(M) addressed a General Body meeting of the party at Chandigarh on 18th july, 2014-regarding. “ Chandigarh, July 18, 2014. A General Body meeting of Punjab State Committee of CPI(M) was held here today at Bhakna Bhawan , Sector 29- D, Chandigarh . Com. S. Ramachandran Pillai, Polit Bureau member, CPI(M) addressed the meeting explaining in details the review of 16th Lok Sabha elections- 2014 as made by the Central Committee meeting . While reporting on the review by the Central Committee , Com. Pillai said that the 16th Lok Sabha election has brought about a major change in the political situation in the country. He commented that this represents a rightward shift in Indian politics with all its political consequences. He further told that the BJP could channelize the anti Congress wave in its favour which developed due to people’s anger against chronic price rise, agrarian distress, unemployment and a massive corruption under the UPA government. He informed that full support from big business and the corporate were a significant factor. Commenting on the performance of the party he said that the results have been disappointing for the CPI(M) and the Left Front. He observed that there is a decline in the mass base of the party and the failure to advance our political influence and develop mass base among the basic classes. Com. Pillai said that the Central Committee has decided to re-examine the political-tactical line which was being pursued especially in the context of allying with the regional bourgeois parties. He also told the meeting that the party will deeply study the impact of neo- liberal policies and formulate its approach . He further told that to translate the mass struggles and movements in to party’s political influence , it will be looked at the functioning of Party’s organization and the orientation of the work among the people. Com. Pillai cautioned the party cadres that in coming days they can expect more aggressive pursuit of neo-liberal policies and the model of development suited to the big business and corporates and he called upon the party members to get prepared to oppose the attack on the welfare measures and livelihood needs of the vast masses of the working people and the poor. He said that the CPI(M) and the Left will have to meet the challenges in the new situation and will have to devote full energies into developing mass movements and struggles.
