A QUEST FOR PEACE. Determined to waste no time in the quest for lasting and meaningful peace in Mindanao, the special Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez, held its third open public hearing Tuesday, October 7, to review, evaluate and craft the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) relative to the comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro signed on March 27, 2014 between the Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). To ensure the viability and constitutionality of all BBL provisions, resource persons shared valuable inputs. Among them were officials and representatives from the Department of Finance, the Bureau of Customs, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Budget and Management. Also present were representatives from other agencies such as the Commission on Audit, Civil Service Commission and the Commission on Elections. During earlier consultation-hearing, invited guests included, among others, officials from the Military and Police, and the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Committee, who gave an overview of the BBL framework and assured that, among other concerns, the proposed law would unite and not dismember the Philippine Republic.
