A Quiescent Sun and a Sneaky Moon. Here is a snapshot of the sun in 6 different wavelengths of solar light observed by NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (Little SDO) over roughly a 48 hour period. Starting from the top moving left to right the wavelengths displayed are 304, 171, 193, 211, 335 and 131 angstroms. There is moderate to low activity then toward the end of the video a small part of the moon can be seen transiting the bottom right of the frames. These extreme ultraviolet wavelengths of light show us solar plasma at temperatures of approximately 50,000 C, 800,000 C, 1 million C, 2 million C, 2.5 million C, and 10 million C. These wavelengths also show us plasma in different layers of the solar atmosphere starting with the chromosphere (304 Angstroms), the transition region (171 Angstroms) and lastly the corona (193, 211, 335, 131 Angstroms.) credit: NASA/SDO
