A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF A LIVE MASTER! DONT MISS! SO MUCH USEFUL INFORMATION ON THE VARIOUS FORMS OF EXERCISE! This is a recording of Dr. Bharat Thakur, Himalayan Yogi, Mystic and Founder of Bharat Thakurs artistic Yoga, on air, on Radio 4, 89.1 FM, Dubai. In this talk, Dr. Bharat Thakur, talks about the different forms of exercise available to us and the various pros and cons of each of them. In terms of oxygen consumption, the type of exercises which are more intensive in consuming oxygen at a faster rate, are called as Aerobic and vice versa is called as Anaerobic type of exercise. By this definition, tradional yoga may be caclled as an anaerobic form of exercise. Free hand exercises involve not working with external weights or props and are very beneficial. Strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and agility are the five elements of fitness. If all of these are not included in your fitness regime, then the fitness developed is only partial in nature. Dr. Thakur describes how the Yoga tradition Originally came into being. At that time, only the Yogis and Rishis used to do Yoga. It was not practiced by laypersons. The need of the Yogis was to sit in long hours of meditation without developing any aches and pains or any other disturbances, in the body. So, they observed the way Animals lived- and from these poses, came the 84 lakh postures (Asanas) of Yoga. For example, Bhujangasan, which helps strengthen the back and abdominal muscles, came by observing the Snakes raised hood. Likewise, Ushtrasan came by observing a Camels movements. Explaining how he faced the challenge of giving a complete workout utilising the concepts of Traditional yoga, Dr. Bharat Thakur informs that Artistic Yoga was devised keeping in mind all the 5 elements of a total fitness workout. Because a workout that focusses only on strength, tends to make the body rigid and inflexible. He goes on to elaborate the differences between gymming/ weight training and Yoga. If one compares treadmill activity with Yoga, on treadmill, a persons mind can wander and will be without much awareness. In yoga however, everything happens only along with Awareness. Plus, the right breathing is essential element of Yoga. Secondly, the repetition of activity in weight training is higher causing a lower retention of postures, whille in Yoga, the postures are held for much longer time, causing so many beneficial effects like toning and so on. Thirdly, yoga involves carrying or holding ones own weight, which is much easier and effective than working with external weights.Working with external weights can also become dangerous if the weight that can be safely taken by an individual, is not carefully decided by expert consultants. This danger does not exist in yoga because our own body weight can easily be lifted by us.All the Yoga Asanas help to turn and twist the different body parts increases the flexibility of the body which helps in anti-ageing. This increased flexibility also ensures that the practitioner of Yoga will suffer very less from joint pains, is less injury prone. Weight training has much higher chances of causing injury as the weights used has to keep increasing with time and the increased weights can cause serious injury. In Artistic yoga, this is the reason why the body is first warmed up, stretched and then only subjected to contractions and postures. Without these sequence of actions, injury is much more likely. There are certain organs called stretch receptors in joints which respond to messages from the brain, when the muscle stretches more than normal. In such a situation, the stretch receptors release certain hormones called Serotonin and Relaxin which are Growth Hormones. These are being taken externally by people to stop ageing, which is not required. Dr. Thakur stresses that being flexible is the key to being youthful and reversing ageing. Another benefit of Yoga is related to Muscle tone. This is the amount of contraction in muscles when one is sitting nromally. A yoga practitioners muscle tone is very less , thereby preventing wastage of energy. Yoga gives a youthful glow, a charm and flexibility to the practitioner.Swimming is another excellent form of exercise, but it must be done continuosly and free-style is preferable. Finally, he signs off with a life affirming message - Yoga is a surefire way to gain power, confidence and energy back in your life . https://soundcloud/sunder-shridhar-180/oct-21-dr-bharat-thakur-on
