A REBUTTAL Thank you for your interest in Nkomii. Nkomii in Nkporo Igbo language means deep thinking. It means that one has to look beyond general or prejudiced consensus or understanding of a subject or subjects to rightfully ascribe meaning to scholarship accepted as truth. Nkomii subscribes to the idea that ethymology (true meaning) be at the forefront of any discussion where truth does not become a casualty of learning. All that glitters isnt gold. We look beyond the understanding of ignorance mindset, or attempts by those who wish to impugn the credibilty or relevance of primordial African spiritual behavior. It is said that religion is the opium of the masses, but culture is its backbone. Let us also understand that all human systems (political, social, economic, cultural) are all products of religion. Therefore, a clear understanding of ones primordial spirituality/religion is prerequisite to a positive contribution to the cohesiveness and opulence of the community that one belongs to. Now, the premise of my piece that reference Mary as the mother of God was questioning the invisible premise that there are two or more higher spiritual beings greater than God who is believed to be the creator of the universe by most global cultures. If this is true, then God is not the first principal spiritual entity. This accession also implies that God was first concieved by a mother and a father before he was born and thereafter created the heavens and earth after God grew up. Furthermore, would it be farfetched to investigate the idea that perhaps he had other siblings. I wonder. Using Nkomii, is it possible that we are worshipping the wrong God, as opposed to worshipping Gods parents? Are there other spiritual forces greater than God? If the answer is yes, then I am afraid that human spiritual consciousness is an irreversible failure. However, I would ague that this premise is mythologically farfetched because, it deviates from the ethymology of religion. Religion simply means a duty one feels compelled to perform in reverence to life sustaining forces. When man/woman realized that they were not responsible for creating life sustaining forces, religion became automatic in their consciousness. Life sustaining forces became their recess excuse for supplication. Nne Chukwu (Gods Mother) is bastardization of African spirituality by Catholicism. This idea that God has a mother did not exist in Igbo cosmogony prior to the invasion. Maybe it exists in your part of Igboland. In Nkporo, Nigeria, such accession would be considered spiritual jingoism.
