A RESPONSE TO GOV. FAYOSE DEATH WISHES ON GENERAL MUHAMMADU - TopicsExpress

A RESPONSE TO GOV. FAYOSE DEATH WISHES ON GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI. The orchestration of the age, the health status and educational qualification of General Muhammadu Buhari and all the unsuccessful attempts by the PDP to discredit his candidacy was taken to the highest level of desperation and brazen racklessness yesterday by Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State. The publication of his advert of death wishes on Buhari on the cover pages of some National dailies is just another mischief, symptomatic of the weaker side of the President’s team who do not engage on issues but rather personalities. It is very disturbing that up to this point, the PDP and the Presidency have not come out openly to dissociate themselves from this purported evil and unafrican culture. This has justify that the President is okay with the way his boys have been campaigning; from fake medical certificate to death wishes. Agility, strength and good health are not exactly a function of age. Yar’Adua (58years) did not die in power because he was an old man. General Sanni Abacha (54years) did not die in power because he was an old man. General Murtala Mohammed (37years) was not killed because he was too old; infact General Mohammed died as a youth. Obasanjo still jumps about at nearly seventy-seven (77), Professor Wole Soyinka, at over eighty (80) years, still travel about, delivering lectures. I dont know when Aso Rock has become a sports arena, and if it has become one, then PDP should tell us that Nigeria needs an agile youngman of less than 27 years for the office of the President of which President Jonathan too is not in this category. The relevant question here is; is the age more important than the character or the character more important than the age? And when those that are supposed to be role models such as a governor starts desecrating the African culture by wishing elders dead then it clearly shows he doesnt want to be an elder. More worrisome is that we fail to remember our past so soon. How do the PDP campaigners think the people of Kano will feel that General Murtala Mohammed who was killed in cold blood will be a subject of ridicule? How do they expect the people of Kano to feel that General Sanni Abacha died in questionable circumstances and nobody has been probed and it has become a subject to score cheap votes. Looking at the ex-leaders on that list, one will clearly seen the message of ethnicity and religiosity; all are from the North-West and all are Muslims. If not, why is General Aguyi Ironsi not on that list? Did he not die in office? Well, PDPs stronghold is in the South-East so putting his picture will greatly annoy the Igbos who sees President Jonathan as their son and inlaw. If as a result of this, Jonathans supporters are attacked in Kano or in the Muslim North, then APC will be held responsible as a party that promotes violence but the Negative campaigns of PDP has gone beyond politics. It has an undertone of promoting ethnic and religious violence. They have clearly justify their accusation that APC is a Muslim party so voting a Muslim will amount to repeat of history; state burial. This has reminded me of the action of Major Kaduna Nzeogwu and the other four Majors who thought they were getting rid of the corrupt politicians in 1966 and it tends to be the greatest disaster in Nigerias history. What Governor Fayose has done is similar. When the Igbo soldiers started ridiculing the Northern soldiers going behind the cupboards and tables in their offices and saying This is how una northern premier hide behind im wives when them been come to kill am. The Northern soldiers felt very embarrassed and a counter coup became eminent. This was the birth of the Nigeria Civil War. The presidency has been very silent on these issues that are promoting divisions among us. The Presidents bark-dogs have been threatening Nigerians; No Jonathan, No Nigeria and have gone to the peak by promoting ethnic and religious sentiments. This act should be outrightly condemned by every Nigerian irrespective of tribe, religion and political affiliation. We must certainly have a country before we can politick and elect or select leaders. What binds us as a nation should be promoted more than what divides us. God bless Nigeria, together we shall uproot those dividing us.
