A Reflection From the Qur’an (4): Allah mentions two - TopicsExpress

A Reflection From the Qur’an (4): Allah mentions two qualities in the Qurʾān, which bring us nearer to righteousness. One is in Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:237 and the other is in Sūrah al-Māʿidah, 5:8. In the first He says: To forego (forgive) is nearer to righteousness (taqwā).” And in the other He says: “Deal justly, for that is nearer to righteousness (taqwā). To let go and to do just, are two qualities that require one to sacrifice his ego [and arrogance]. The instruction for us to let go in one verse, and to be just in the other came to guide us when dealing with people we have dispute with. The most difficult time to be fair is when your enemy is involved, and you have to give him his rights justly. After all, doing so is nearer to righteousness, but not exactly righteousness. We understand from this, that our deeds leads to righteousness. But rigtheousness is not measured based on our deeds. Our righteousness is rather measured based on our hearts. Deeds are [rewarded] based on their intentions. [Hadith]. That’s why two people can do the same thing, but in the end, they are rewarded differently. Let’s check our heart desires, learn to forgo sincerely and to be just when applicable, so we may be nearer to righteousness. And in the process, let not forget to narrow our intentions.
