A Repost from brother ROMULUS JOVE BELTRAN AN OPEN LETTER TO BROTHER MIKE TAHA Fraternal Greetings Brother Mike, Brother, I do not think we have ever met in person and I will not be the least surprised if you have never heard of my name either. That being the case, I still took it upon myself, as a concerned member of APhiO to reach out and call upon you and your office to act with resolve in coming up with appropriate solutions or remedies to the division that has so far managed to polarize the organization in gargantuan proportions. Such divisions, as you may know by now, were brought about by a clamor for reforms within the organization by clusters of members who for one reason or another chose facebook as their venue for ventilating their grievances. Such clamor mutated over time into protest actions when denied attention. And when some of the protesters grew weary of the perceived indifference, they saw it necessary to bring their cause before the discretion of the court. I have my reservations on the action they chose to take but my opinion is of no consequence now that the case has already been filed. Having said the foregoing, Brother Mike, I would like you to know that I see matters from a different perspective. I view the problem as institutional, systemic, if you will, and I neither dare nor care point a finger as to who is at fault for I am not in a position to pass judgment on anyone. I see the root of the problem as the endemic assimilation, over time, of rules and procedures that are neither reflective of the will of the greater majority of members nor acceptable to the same majority. I speak of course of our Constitution and Bylaws. The problem is so deep rooted, Brother, that nothing short of a total revision is in order, so as to make our laws : the rules that guide and regulate all our actions and demeanor more reflective of the will of the general membership who are first and foremost, the supreme authority in Alpha Phi Omega. BROTHER, my point may be stated briefly and more clearly in this manner: ALPHA PHI OMEGA needs a total revision of its laws, guidelines and general procedures as embodied in its Constitution and Bylaws. It is imperative if we are to restore order in the organization and it must be done with hasty resolve. Brother Mike, I am fully aware that there is a current contest as to the validity of your election as President of APhiO, whether said contest has merit or not is not for me to decide. But until such time that a competent authority has passed judgment, you are for all intents and purposes and at the very least, the de facto President of APhiO and as such must diligently and faithfully execute the duties as well as exercise the powers of the office ACCORDING TO YOUR MANDATE. You will notice Brother, that I put emphasis on the phrase “according to your mandate”. I purposely did so because I happen to be aware that the General Assembly of the Legaspi Convention approved a resolution to the effect that : A Constitutional Convention must be called for and convened within a specified period of time. THIS, is not a resolution that may be ignored or modified in any manner and it is your sworn duty to see to it that it materializes. It is part and parcel of your mandate. It is nothing short of a command from a superior authority that leaves you no choice but to follow. I fear that failure on your part would perceivably make you vulnerable to impeachment for dereliction of duty. I do not wish you that fate so please, my dear Brother, heed the call of your Brethren hungry and thirsty for change and reform…and, this is what they have to say: Brother Mike Taha, if you believe, deep in your heart, that you are the duly elected President of ALPHA PHI OMEGA, then do your duty… CALL FOR THE CONVENING OF A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION...NOW! Brother Mike, please believe me when I say I wish you well and I believe that your love for APO will guide you into doing the right thing. Your brother in the spirit of Leadership, Friendship and Service… I Remain, Romulus Jove Beltran 0019-76-11557Lifemember
