A Requiem for the Lost Religious Freedom in West Java. By Sahala Napitupulu. Brothers and Sister In the name of Jesus Christ. In the past, Indonesian people was adored friendly and politely, they had tolerance and keep religious freedom as well. In the past, Christian Indonesia easier to develop their community than today, spreading Jesus’ Gospel and build the church. But right now, Indonesia had been changed ! Many problems and conflict in Indonesia based on the lost religious freedom. And now I am going to share with you. Burning, destroying and closing churches in Indonesia, especially in West Java province at last ten years often happened. But almost incidents always had ending without clarify, even though there were arsonists and destroyers. They are not arrested. Or if they arrested, we not see the criminal court upon them. Interesting to be considered. In our country Indonesia there is Constitution of Indonesia 1945 as the highest law . In this Constituttion 1945, there is the guarantee for religious freedom. Mentioned in Article 28E : (1) That every person shall be free to choose and to practice the religion of his or her choice. (2) That every person shall have the right to the freedom to believe his/her faith, and to express his/her views and thoughts, in accordance with his/her conscience. (3) That every person shall have the right to the freedom to associate, to assemble and to express opinions. And then being confirmed again in Article 29 verse : (1) That the State shall be based upon the belief in the One and Only God. (2) That the State guarantees all person the freedom of worship each according to his or her own religion or belief. But in reality, the religious freedom in Indonesia especially in the last ten years being lost ! Christians in Indonesia often have not guarantee for their religious freedom. In fact many churches were being closed. Many churches were burned and destroyed, intimidated and became victims by some Islam organizations intolerant such as FPI and FUI etc Many Christians were injured and threatened because they keep their faith to Jesus Christ. But no one arrested ! No one jailed ! President Indonesia could be change from one to another, but the religious freedom is still lost. Tempo Data And Analysis Centre had release the list of destruction and closing churches in Indonesia : President Soeharto era (from March 1967 to May 1998),there were 456 churches were destroyed and burned. President Habibie era (from May 1998 to October 1999) there were 156 churches destroyed and burned. President Abd. Rahman Wahid (October 1999 to July 2001) there were 232 churches destroyed and burned. President Megawati era (July 2001 to October 2004) there were 39 churches destroyed. President Soesilo Bambang Yudhoyono era (2005 until Nov 2014) more than one hundred churches were destroyed and burned. Brothers and Sisters in the name of Jesus Christ. Last year, we have sent thousands christmas card to president SBY, and asked president to make decison to open the seal of churches GKI Yasmin and HKBP Filadelfia Bekasi by Major Bogor and Regent Bekasi. But SBY disregarded ! But yesterday, Sunday December 7th 2014, after Sunday Service in front of Presidents palace, weve sent sum Christmas Letters to president Jokowi and hope Jokowi will make a decision to open the seal !! So, please lift your prayer up for GKI Yasmin and HKBP Filadelfia and lets hope we have religious freedom in era president Jokowi.!!!
