A SHIPWRECK THAT WASNT: Last summer Gary Esper (who is or at least was Greg Brooks boat captain on the Port Nicholson project) gave me a packet of information on a shipwreck venture that I was considering investing both time and money in. The most interesting part of the packet dealt with a French ship Louis Arasmo (also spelled Louis Erasme), which had allegedly sunk off Massachusetts with a very large amount of treasure. I initially thought it looked good as the packet gave details of the treasure allegedly lost with the Louis Erasme, and even contained copies of documents. The information had been prepared by E.R. Michaud. Recognizing Michauds name and having previously found problems with his research, I decided to check it out more carefully. (Note: Michaud is a long time associate of Greg Brooks. Brooks now alleges that on November 23, 2014, Michaud admitted to him that he had created bogus documents on the Port Nicholson.) Searching on line, I quickly found a great deal of information about the ship. The ship Louis Erasme was real and so was the treasure, but according to everything I found, she was not wrecked on that voyage. Instead, the Louis Erasme was captured and carried to England. There was even a famous painting showing her capture. The painting (shown here) is by Charles Brooking. Its titled: The Capture of the Marquis dAntin and the Louis Erasme. I can not believe anyone could have put as much effort into preparing the research as Michaud had done without their finding that the wreck was captured, not sunk. And, if they found such information, but had reason to dispute it, all of it should have been disclosed in the packet. To see more information on the painting of the Louis Erasmes capture, along with ship Marquis dAntin, go to commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Charles_Brooking_-_The_Capture_of_the_%22Marquis_d%27Antin%22_and_the_%22Louis_Erasme%22_-_Google_Art_Project.jpg Please note that I like Gary Esper. Here is a link to his Facebook page. https://facebook/gary.esper You will see that I have not deleted Gary as a friend, as he is not a researcher and I have seen absolutely no evidence that he was aware that the ship had not really been sunk off Massachusetts. Had he known, I seriously doubt he would have shared the packet with me, as he would have known that I would properly check it out.
