A SPEECH DELIVERED BY MY BOSS, MR. ROBERT A SIRLEAF AT THE INDUCTION CEREMONIES AT THE CENTER FOR THE EXCHANGE OF INTELLECTUAL OPINION(CEIO), CAREY STREET. Topic: Choices: Perceptions, Facts, and Realities The Chairman elect and officials of CEIO, the out-going leadership, the members of this intellectual institution, invitees, members of the fourth estate, fellow Liberians, distinguished audience. I am gratified yet humbled to be selected as “guest speaker” for your induction ceremonies, thank you and congratulations for your election and the assumption of the public trust. It is my hope that this inaugural program serves as an intellectual transformation, not only in the lives of your members, but also the Liberian society generally, especially the youths of our nation whom now will have the rightful mantle to choose managing perceptions, versus facts. The reality of managing these FACTS, RATIONALLY transferred by you, now rests in their hands Mr. Chairman, I implore you and your leadership to make good choices that will benefit this institution and making it second to none. We should as leaders in our society steer clear of intellectually speaking on or to negative perceptions. We should always follow facts by investigating surrounding those issues whether they are political, social, or economic. Free talking is based mostly in rumored perceptions, less on research, and processing of facts. The mind is a terrible thing to waste. If we exercise positive intellectually mentally challenging, and stimulating thinking, this will in return make you to craft wise choices as leaders. Your members depend on you, they look unto you; they should be able to trust your leadership and give you credible marks. “Choices: Perceptions, Facts, and Realitties”. As a leader, making the right decision is crucial for the directions you can choose in the running of this intellectual forum. The choices you make direct the future of lives of those around you. Lead by example: Knowing that your choices will have cause and effect. It will cause others to choose, affecting not only yours, but their lives. You were chosen by your people; be leaders, not politicians. Politicians think of the next election, leaders think of the next generation. The choices made must be very positive, specifically progressive, and factually sound. CEIO’s conversations and decisions should not be MANAGED by others, but should be of, and responsibly to, the broader consultation amongst members before coming to the public. In this critical period of 2014 of our nation political history and future, to an extent will depend on your leadership. Your thinking must be decisive in making the right choices as an intellectual institution which now is recognized nationwide. Your members have made choices by electing you, and those choices will impact them positively or negatively depending on which path you take. Trust your leadership, listen to your members, most importantly, listen to your inner voice. For whenever you are to make choices, feel your heart; always think and process all big and crucial decision thoroughly. You should have faith in the ability of your leadership and also in your instincts. After all, the only person you can trust to want the best is yourself (Kat K. Nicole Wilson). False or negative perceptions against others harm not only our youths but our society; at times human nature defaults to the negative. False perception against your government affects the whole society, and negatively impact the reputation of others. We must be able to help each others as young people and promote our brothers when they are succeeding. Whenever one has a negative perception against others you look at those around you as ways that are not beneficial, you hinder yourself from growing emotionally, and in fact, it blinds you to compassion and an attitude of humility in your life. We must change our way of perception against others and our government: Your leadership must play a role in directing the perception of your members against each other and the society at large. Don’t perceive your leadership to be corrupt when it is not, and don’t perceive the government to be corrupt when it is ALL not. Most importantly, don’t see everyone in the government to be corrupt when everyone in the government is not corrupt. All coins have two sides. Good has bad, white has black. I am not saying that you should not speak against corruption or bad leadership in your institution; your information against your leadership and the government must be with facts. As you are aware, fact is something that can be checked and confirmed with evidence. If you have perceptions, and speak them loosely on issues, youre nothing but a free talker if you have facts on issues, you become powerful and offer credible voice So it is very important that you speak or write based on facts. If you are speaking and writing about CEIO’s Franklyn Wesseh and his leadership, about others, it must be based on facts depending on the strong evidence in your possession; people term to trust you and believe what comes out of you. If we do these things as an institution and as a nation, we will make CEIO a better institution, and in extension, Liberia will be a better society for all of us. Go far my young brother, go well, travel the intellectually path chosen, Stand up, stand proudly for you are good. Think for today, execute for tomorrow, Hello Tomorrow! For its a better day coming Thank you!
