A STRANGE COINCEDENCE Today i reached my office at 10 - 15 am. It is now 11-07 am. As i was opening the door of my office, i saw 2 marathi gentlemen waiting for me. I knew they would be waiting with some coins or notes. Both of them entered after me and my peon. I knew them by face as i had seen them quite often. One of them opened a packet of big sized 100 rupee notes. All were signed by bhattacharya save two which had iyengars sign. All the notes were in xf and above. I started the count which ended at 43....not running numbers. I had never ever got so many notes at one time. This surprised me. The man seemed to be pleased as punch at my offer and the notes exchanged hands. He got up and left. I had mistaken the fact that the two gentlemen were together. The 2nd gentleman started opening his packet and out came blue tenners of george sixth in condition between fine and vf. Remember those notes having the profile of the monarch. I started the count at 1 and it ended at 43. Unbelievable. Two different customers coming at the same time and each having 43 notes in two different denominations. These notes also exchanged hands. Things like these happen to me. I am amazed. Maybe if matka playing was still around, i would have banked on the bracket 43.
