A SWSC Weather Warning For heavy rain and gusty winds. Valid - TopicsExpress

A SWSC Weather Warning For heavy rain and gusty winds. Valid from 01:00 until 15:00 Saturday 3rd of January. As you can see by the charts below, we are expecting a pulse of heavy rain to affect the SW tomorrow (Saturday) with strengthen winds. We will start to see the rain arrive from around midnight tonight starting off light and patchy but becoming more persistent and heavy during the early hours of Saturday morning. The front will push E-SE during the morning taking with it the heaviest of the rain. Behind, showers will push in with some being heavy potentially thundery in nature. With all showers, they will be hit and miss so not everywhere will catch them. We could see by the end of tomorrow between 10 to 20mm of rainfall, so there will be a lot of surface water and spray on the roads with the added risk of localised flooding for a time. Winds will be gusty and potentially strong associated with the heavier rain during the morning for the SW and then for southern and eastern areas during the afternoon so extra care is needed if out and about shopping or travelling home after the Christmas break within this zone. The strongest of the gusts are expected to affect southern coastal areas and through the channel with speeds between 20 to 45mph, lightest for more inland areas. Once the heaviest of the rain clears through, the winds will tend to drop back but not until into the evening. Next the week ahead plus a second update for the potential for stormy conditions affecting us towards the end of next week and into the 3rd week of January. Dean Images courtesy of Netweather.tv
