A Sabbath message to my dear and esteemed fellow members of the worldwide Jewish community: If you hear the rumors or read the articles that have been circulating about Pope Francis having turned on the Jews or betrayed anti-semitic feelings, DO NOT pay any heed. Yes, it is true that he is meeting with Palestinian leaders on his trip to the Holy Land in order to be fair and balanced. It is even true that he is meeting with some of the less moderate leaders who could be accurately characterized as encouraging terrorism or stirring up trouble. But he does NOT share their sentiments, and meeting with them does not constitute condoning their beliefs or actions. Do not let anybody persuade you otherwise. At this point in her development, the Catholic Church is quite literally unable to turn her back on Jews, Judaism, or the Holy Land, unless a Pope changes major tenets and doctrines back to what they were centuries ago. That is not going to happen. Individual Catholics can and do turn against us all the time, but this will not happen from the top down, and certainly not while Francis has something to say about it.
