A Scott Galloway added 4 new photos. October 25 at 11:47am · Edited · Regretful to report the passing of bassist/composer/singer JACK BRUCE (71). He is most famous for being a member of the legendary rock super trio CREAM (w/ Ginger Baker and eric clapton) as well as the pioneering jazz-rock fusion band THE TONY WILLIAMS LIFETIME (on its second LP, Turn It Over, with John McLaughlin and Larry Young - Bruce had played with Mac circa `62 in The Graham Bond Quartet). I never got to see Cream or Lifetime live - I was too young - but a couple of years back at the Playboy Jazz Festival, I witnessed Jack Bruce in a collective that was reinventing the music of Lifetime: SPECTRUM ROAD (w/ Cindy Blackman-Santana, Vernon Reid and John Medeski). The stage spun around for the closing set of the night and they incinerated the place for all the true fusion heads who had been waiting all day to see them. Such a powerful stage presence, such a resounding bottom on bass, such a gravelly cocksure voice. I will also remember him fondly as his song Were Going Wrong was covered by Rotary Connection in 1969 featuring Minnie Riperton and arranged by the great Charles Stepney. I proudly included it in an artful segue with I Took a Ride (Caravan) in the 2-CD anthology I produced, Petals: The Minnie Riperton Collection, as an example of her conscience-stirring psychedelic years with that group. Thank you for your vibration and your conscious dynamism on this planet, Jack Bruce. Respect.
