A Secret Weight Loss Weapon So here I am again on the road for more coaching, today in New Jersey. One of the questions I get asked a lot is, if there is a specific food that can help lose weight. When you’re trying to lose weight, appetite usually works against you and even though some of the hunger is triggered by the fact that you know you are on a diet, there is something that you can now use to help control that hunger. You don’t need the latest pill, or “miracle” weight loss extract, though. New research shows that a common snack food is key to reaching your weight-loss goal faster. According to mounting evidence, the answer is as near as the “snacks and nuts” aisle at your local grocery. Purdue University researchers reported recently that eating just one-and-a-half ounces of dry-roasted, slightly-salted almonds as a snack each day can control hunger, resulting in fewer calories consumed throughout the day. Although one-and-a-half ounces of almonds, approximately 36 individual almonds, contain about 250 calories, scientists speculate that some of those calories may not be readily accessible to the body. They have the added benefit of boosting your levels of the natural antioxidant, vitamin E. Almonds are also a good source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, fiber, and protein. Adding almonds to your diet may “reduced hunger and desire to eat.” Even though subjects were free to eat as much, or as little, as they pleased, people snacking on almonds chose to consume fewer calories at a later meal. If that isnt enough to turn you onto almonds, here is an additional benefit. Previous research has shown that almonds benefit cardiovascular health by lowering oxidized LDL-cholesterol levels. So there you have it, go get your almonds and dont worry about the calories, but of course dont attempt glazed ones, the sugar in them will jeopardize any weight loss efforts Is almonds part of your daily weight-management strategy? Let me know what you think—I’d love to hear your own suggestions for healthful foods that can help control hunger.
