A Short Commentary by George Gerard Goddard on Sustainable Development in Trinidad and Tobago: Sustainable Development is of paramount concern for Trinidad and Tobago’s Non-Governmental Youth Development Work Agency, called eMentor Caribbean. The “e” in eMentor symbolises Regional Competitiveness – a programme that prepares our young people for global competition. According to George Gerard Goddard, eMentor Director of Sustainable Development, "I agree that“in spite of the recent awareness of the importance of the small business sector in Trinidad and Tobago, most efforts to bridge the digital divide focuses on the importance of improving young people’s physical access to computers and the Internet.” According to his “Community Needs and Analysis Report”, there are issues from entrepreneurship to the growth of the economy, which currently exist in “challenged communities” and must be effectively addressed, through our individual and collective actions. He has mounted several campaigns on sustainable development of our region’s young men and women, seniors and job seekers. In Trinidad and Tobago, St Vincent and the Grenadines. Youth Entrepreneurship Seminar (Y.E.S.), one of which, can adequately assist youth entrepreneurs and business interns via a proven succession plan in implementation and sustenance of business ideas; and the sharing of successful experiences by local and regional businesses. . I believe that without further research and the development of value added products and services for emerging global markets, the Caribbean entrepreneurial culture is ‘at risk.’ Most importantly, without a structured system through which institutions and professionals voluntarily contribute towards the sustainable growth and development of “disadvantaged” young people, seniors and job seekers, progressive and vibrant businesses cannot survive the rigors of World Trade.
