A Smart Woman Dies and Some Words in Funny Orders I loved Lauren Bacall. I know she was just an actress and portraying smart funny women is not necessarily the same as being one... but it can be... and in the reality between the title scene and the credits it certainly is. I have lots of bits of paper and computer files full of half-written lyrics and poetry. I suspect Im not the only one. The following comes from one of those files. Its not-quite ready to be a poem and has yet to be battered into shape to be a lyric. Its ungainly and too innocent to be released to the world but never-the-less, here it is... for Lauren and others. Crush Julian of Norwich , Eleanor of Castile , Patricia Morrison, Kim and Kelley Deal. Kuan Yin, Jane Russell, and of course Mrs Peel, Morticia Addams was the feminine ideal, Shall I compare you to a summer’s rose? I know nothing of floristry, I can only compare you to all of those, Who sometimes meant the most to me. Rogue, Kitty Pride and Mary-Jane Parker, Milady, The Woman and Min a Harker, Buffy and Willow and Dorothy Parker, And Helena Bonham Carter Christina Ricci, Isabella Rossellini, Miranda Richardson (especially as Queenie), I’ll always have Paris with Vivien Leigh. But you still mean the most to me. Mary Magdalene, Annie Hall, Louise Brooks and Lauren Bacall, Your chocolate eyes, I recall, Whenever I need to smile.
