A Study visit at the Swedish Parliament on April 1, 2014 The Swedish parliament is the supreme decision making assembly in Sweden. Every year the people of Sweden elect a political party to represent them in the parliament. The parliament has 349 members, with 55% men and 45% women who were elected in 2010. (There are more women in Parliament with just a difference of 5%). One of the source of success for this countrys democracy is the implementation of every political parties including names of women on their political party lists. After every one count of a man, come the name of woman and after one count of a woman comes the name of a man and onward....... One may ask than how come 45% women and not 50%? Its because one political party here seriously opposes to womens inclusion and our study made us to now that that party is not very famous here in the Swedishs political landscape because of its opposing posture to womens participation. And Additionally women make 50% of the country population and they contribute to the success of political parties at the parliament. Thats the little secret for the people success in their democracy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ruling now is a coalition of the four parties which means another four parties are in opposition totaling 8 parties in Parliament. Indeed Sweden has achieved the one of the 3 P of the UNSCR 1325, that calls for Womens Participation and the Swedish democracy is working very well. Becoming a parliamentarian in the Swedish parliament only requires one being a citizen, of age 18 years and above, no banding educational prerequisites. The good thing about the parliament here, is that it reflects all sectors, meaning that all sector of the country are represented: teachers, farmers, lawyers, economist, politicians, doctors....... all of whom are elected by the people. Sweden has been one of the peaceful countries for over 200 years. As I close on this brief summary from study visit at the Swedish Parliament, I would want to ask this simple question. Should Liberias legislature passed the gender equity bill??????? Please leave your comments...... In all that we do, Liberia First!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
