A Sunday country stroll with life music & brunch in Benneydale… Sunday 28 October - JERSEYBOB at ArtDoc Gallery Jerseybob has been strumming and picking his way around the world for the last 14 years. He picked up a cheap Hohner acoustic guitar in the mid 90s and wrote his first song 3 months later. In the main genre of Folk/Roots he creates heartfelt stories of family, love and life. 40 countries later and 14 albums to his name, Jerseybob has been joined on percussion and cajon by his talented wife, Monika, who also plays balafon, a melodic percussion instrument much like a wooden xylophone. They currently live in Taupo and are regulars at festivals and Gypsy Fairs throughout New Zealand. An impromptu jam session at the ArtDoc Gallery earlier this year resulted in cheers for encores from the audience. Country Music in the country is a concert-series featuring folk, country and grassroots music and exposing the talent of New Zealand artists like Jess Chambers, Andrew London, Donna Dean or Jerseybob to a new audience. The ArtDoc Gallery in Benneydale has a growing reputation for staging top quality talent in their art workshops and concerts. Started in 2010, the gallery doors first opened for a two woman stand-up comedy musical burlesque featuring TVNZ Diva Sarah Bradley and songbird Monica Louis. With the Timber Trail bringing new visitors to this region, the ArtDoc Gallery has added accommodation to the event venue and is attracting attention from well beyond the Waitomo boundaries. Benneydale on state highway 30 is at 1 k from the signpost of the middle of the North Island and the Sunday events make for a good excuse to meander off to the scenic country side. The afternoon starts with a ten dollar country lunch at 1 pm followed by the concert and CD-signing with Jerseybob from 2-5 pm.
