A Surgeon’s Journal Egypt on her way to stability Dr Mohamed AHMED-NASR Some political clans are calling Egyptians to gather in Tahrir square n November 19th to memorize Mohamed Mahmoud street events. Such clans want to show the support that the great majority of the population are giving to the actual regime and to the army. In my personal opinion , Egypt needs stability. Any popular agglomeration may be liable to any types of degeneration. It is wise to postpone any mass popular manifestations to later periods when complete stability is achieved. The Egyptian revolution did not yet achieve its goals . Egyptians did not yet improve their social and economic circumstances. Nothing has been done as concerning Education , Health care, improvement of familial incomes etc. Presence even of a minor part of the population sympathizing with Islamic groups creates additional polemics that give phobias to the major part of the population. The actual government did not announce plans or visions concerning development of industries , creation of employments or policies that increase exportations or monetary amelioration. Egyptians have the right to contest. Nevertheless , it is important to know that it is impossible to achieve such goals in atmospheres of instability, strikes and violence. It is important that the actual government try to act more actively in order to let the country reach a minimum of political , economic and social stability. Some of the Ministers of the actual cabinet are lacking vision for economic development. It is not wise to save money. It is important to take decisions that encourage investments and enhance economy. Savings are advised in matters of governmental sophisticated expenses in furnishing offices , buying cars , travelling etc. On the other hand it is important to pour money in improving infrastructures , research in fields that improve quality of Egyptian products or know how of scientific institutions. Without improving roads , trains, communications etc. economy cannot be easily redressed. Egypt needs a new cabinet capable of taking courageous decisions without hesitation for sake of enhancement of Egyptian industries , economy and know how. The whole national economy is stagnant. Thousands of citizens are losing their employments. Many medications ,as for example, are starting to be lacking on the Egyptian market. Many factories are not producing because of lack of primary materials essential for their productions. Such a situation should not last longer . It is primordial to let the process of productivity start without interruption. Instability , strikes and demonstrations as shown in mass media interrupt tourism , and all foreign investments Groups of citizens calling for wide demonstrations on November 19th may be right in trying to support the army and the actual regime. Nevertheless, timing of strikes or demonstrations is not appropriate. Their gathering in different cities is actually more harmful than beneficial and may even precipitate degeneration in the streets. It is actually primordial to pay attention to the next coming parliament elections . Egyptians should present competent candidates to the new parliament. Egypt should actually show to the whole world that there are social, economic and political stability in Egypt in order to let economy overcome the actual bottle neck. It is important for the actual regime to overcome lack of liquid cash. Egypt has great financial resources but does not actually have enough cash to realize its major challenging projects. All demands of different groups cannot be positively responded without re start of national economy Revolution is not only delivery of excited slogans , it is wisdom , politics and capacity to raise voice when needed and retire when needed. I do not want revolutionary citizens to be like the bear that killed his friend to quick the annoying fly. No one should actually retard process of elaboration of the new constitution and election of a new parliament and a new president.. Such an effort should run in parallel with development of economy by giving to the whole world mass media an image of stability in Egypt… E mail: [email protected]
