A System of Site Safety Review Must Include Child - TopicsExpress

A System of Site Safety Review Must Include Child Supervision STAR 2 standards require a “system of site safety review including strategies for supervising children and corresponding plan of action.” The intent of this standard is to have a regular process for inspecting your facility so that you can make corrections before incidents occur. These corrections should be documented in your plan of action. Implementing this standard successfully requires identifying and planning for possible risks due to environmental hazards and those related to the supervision of children. A successful strategy for supervision includes a methodical review of staffing patterns and communication to ensure that children are supervised appropriately at all times. Consider ways to implement and demonstrate that you have a system for regularly checking that these procedures are in place. Many programs use a health and safety checklist to review their environment on a regular basis. Documentation for checking supervision practices should also include standard criteria or a checklist. An article in Health Link Online from spring, 2013 provides information on creating a child supervision checklist that incorporates the standards and resources you use in your program.
