A TALE BY HENRY: Tonight is the Christmas in Rockefeller Center Special on Television and I know that somewhere out there my companion, Jen is watching it, sadly it will be without me. But this is not supposed to be about sad, this is supposed to share with you a memory, a warm and fuzzy and happy memory! First some details: Jen loves the Christmas Season. Jen also loves music! This is how I know she wont be missing that event. We have watched it together in the past. Yes, I know, I am a dog, but I do watch tv. I love music as well. One of our favorite Christmas songs is Rockin Around the Christmas Tree. The original is sung by Brenda Lee and it is as Jen calls it an oldie but a goodie There is something else you should know about me, I like to dance! What? You seem surprised! I know what you are thinking, a dog doesnt dance. HA! Have you ever been to the circus? Seen the dogs perform? They dance! Okay so they do all kinds of embarrassing things, plus animal rights activists will tell you NOT to go to the circus. Where else can you see 25 clowns fit into a 1970 Beetle? Okay so I digress. Go to the circus, dont go to the circus, this is not about the circus. Anyway, so Jen and I dance, alone, and together. I have to say I have some good moves! Jen isnt bad either, but she is a bit more self conscience than I am. So we wont make it on Dancing with the Stars, but we love to dance and we do it with enthusiasm. We lived in Bloomington Indiana and my second Christmas we had a beautiful tall Christmas tree. It is Jens tradition to decorate the tree and play Christmas music and bake cookies. Decorating the tree takes a long time because each ornament must be inspected and the story of how it came to be part of our collection is told. This is a all day event. It is a lot of fun. There are ornaments for many special occasions in Jens life and an ornament that represents each dog she has had the fortune to share her life with. There is a tiny dog in a dog bed that represents Tippy, her first dog from her childhood. There is a bone with Mistys name on it, a dog catching a Frisbee to remind us of Luke. A dog in a dog house to remind us of foster dog Rose. The list goes on. Decorating the tree is fun. Sampling the cookies is even more fun. The most fun is the dancing. I get very excited watching Jen happy and she is happy when she dances. I will jump around and shake my tail! (I am a dog, I dont have a booty!) Sometimes I get so excited I have to sing along with the song. It is so much fun. So the Christmas of 2011 was the first time I ever heard Rockin around the Christmas Tree. I loved that song. So I stood up on my hind legs and put a paw on each of Jens shoulders and danced with wild abandon. It was so much fun. I do not do this often, it has to be special songs. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree is a special song. I knew this song was special to Jen and so I danced with her! I am looking forward to the next dance I will share with Jen and I know she is too! So take it from me, when you are happy, JUST DANCE! (ELLEN does it and so do I!!)
