A TOUGH DAY FOR PELKHIL! Volleyball: We faced Babesa MSS in the quarter finals which turned out to be a relatively easy win. In the semi-finals. we aced off against YHSS, a team we knew little about. They turned out to be quite strong but in the end our team won in straight sets 2-0. In the final we came up against a formidable team from Kelki HSS. Both schools brought a loud and boisterous cheering crowd so the final lived up to the image of a real and exciting final. With loud cheering and heavy beating of drums, the fact that there was a big final going on was more than obvious in the vicinity! Many passersby stopped by to join in the excitement and watch a truly exciting final. While the Pelkhil team brought a formidable offense to the game, it was equally matched by the Kelki team. However, Kelkis very obvious advantage was in having a team that was balanced in strength and having a setter who made few errors. Their offense was able to utilize the full power of their talent while our team struggled to set the ball consistently. This showed in the final result even though it was close. We lost the match 22-25, 24-25 and 23-25. Even a little bit of better luck could have made things significantly different! All the same, we offer our sincerest congratulations to the Kelki boys for a very well-earned victory and championship! Also to the Kelki girls for simultaneously taking the girls trophy and Rinchen HSS as runners-up. To our boys we would like to commend them for their dogged determination all year in building a volleyball team from scratch. They have trained hard and not only thrashed all and sundry up to the finals, but they have also planted the seeds of a serious volleyball program at Pelkhil School. They have generated considerable excitement and school spirit among their school mates who all spent all day waiting for the finals despite the ad hoc changes to the program. In particular we would like to commend our volleyball captain Dechen Phurba for his hardwork and determination. He has displayed the qualities we value as a Pelkhil Tiger and these will surely stand him in good stead in his future! FOOTBALL The timing of our volleyball final clashed with the last football league match against Lungtenzampa MSS today so some of our football players, including the goalkeeper and forwards had to skip the football match. As a consequence, although the game was totally dominated by Pelkhil, we were weak at both ends. We were unable to score despite the possession and unable to defend the few times the ball came to our half. The game remained a close 1-1 until the later stages during which period we let in one goal and conceded another controversial goal after the whistle was blown but given as advantage play. So we lost 3-1. However, we are still in the running and will have another chance to make amends, this time with a full squad. Tomorrow we play a quarter-final match against the winner of the other pool, Nima HSS. The match will be at 3pm. BHUTAN TELECOM DANCE COMPETITION Our Culture Group performed one boedra number at the Clock Tower today. Given the hectic sports program today, we were not able to be there, so our apologies! However, there was good feedback from the crowd. Unfortunately, the judges decided to give the prizes to the other schools.
