A Tale of Two Meetings in the Capitol Tomorrow: Come to Senator - TopicsExpress

A Tale of Two Meetings in the Capitol Tomorrow: Come to Senator Greens meaningful Roundup meeting at 1:30, not the silly pro-GMO morning meeting by Senator Nishihara. Oh wait, Senator Nishihara didnt invite you or the public to his joke meeting #1. Here is the breakdown: Meeting #1 (pictures image) Notorious chemical/GMO corporate industry proponent and GMO campaign funded pesticide regulation blocker Senator Nishihara suddenly flies in a pro-chemical/GMO industry on the SAME DAY as Senator Greens information gathering on Monsantos toxic Roundup! What a joke! Pro-GMO Senator Nishihara, who does not believe pesticides are linked to birth defects, is having a chemical industry pro-GMO PR buddy Peter Davies come lecture some industry messaging in a non-public GMO myth session at the Capitol tomorrow to try to drop more pro-GMO industry rhetoric for the House and Senate Ag committees. Davies will likely be telling his GMO myths about how Monsanto just wants to feed people (*coughbs*) and is secretly helping (by poisoning nearly everything they touch) decrease pesticide SPRAY by putting pesticides in the FOOD (another fail, they are actually INCREASING spraying with majority pesticide spray resistant GMO crops that also eventually, FAIL!) Another OBVIOUS chem/GMO industry professor waxing his wares for the chemical corporations trying to influence legislation, no wonder the public is not invited! Because we know when an industry sponsored GMO supporter is lying, also, we live in GMO Ground Zero, we know the truth. Scheduled on the morning of same day as the REAL info briefing on Monsantos ROUNDUP put together by a Senator who actually CARES about Hawaii and our health, DOCTOR Senator Green. So the private joke show by a pro-GMO chemical industry unofficial spokesperson is in the morning, dont worry, youre not invited. MEETING #2 The REAL event you SHOULD go to is at 1:30 PM IN ROOM 229. Bring all the glyphosate and Roundup info you can! Here is the press release on the ROUNDUP MEETING: Senate Committee on Health to hold informational briefing on use of Roundup State Senator Josh Green, M.D. (D - Kona, Kau) announced today that the Senate Committee on Health will hold an informational briefing on the use of the chemical herbicide Roundup by state, county, and city departments and agencies. The informational briefing is scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 1:30 PM in Room 229 of the State Capitol. “We have been receiving reports from around the state from people disturbed by the use of Roundup or glyphosate by local and state road crews,” Green said. People are expressing concern that this chemical is being used in an excessive and unnecessary way, and may be hazardous to human health and to the environment. The goal of this informational briefing is to determine if the use of Roundup by state and local agencies is safe and necessary, and if everything possible is being done to reduce potentially harmful exposure to our land, water and people. Roundup is one of the trade names for the chemical herbicide glyphosate, developed by Monsanto and manufactured and sold under various names by Monsanto and other agrochemical companies. The purpose of the informational briefing is to: - Receive a full and comprehensive report on all use of Roundup/glyphosate statewide by state, county and city departments and agencies to determine whether all appropriate regulations, codes, safety measures and guidelines are being fully observed in its use - Receive information from environmental and health experts on any potential hazardous effects of Roundup/glyphosate use on the environment and human health - Explore possible alternatives to the use of chemical herbicides such as Roundup/glyphosate by state, county and city departments and agencies Those invited to participate include: Department of Health - Director Linda Rosen, M.D. Dr. Lorrin Pang, Maui District Health Officer Dr. Dileep Bal, Kauai District Health Officer Aaron Ueno, Hawaii District Health Officer Department of Transportation - Director Glenn Okimoto Department of Accounting and General Services - Dean Seki City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation - Director Tony Robinson City and County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation - Director Clayton Honma City and County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation - Director Glenn Correa City and County of Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation - Director Leonard Repozo Jr. Jeff Knowles, Kona Water and Soil Conservation District Andrea Rosanoff, Ph.D., Director of Research & Science Information Outreach, Center for Magnesium Education & Research Jennifer Appel Included below are examples of constituent letters and emails Senator Green has received from those concerned with the use of Roundup/glyphosate by state, county, and city departments and agencies, including photographs taken of road crew trucks spraying chemical herbicide clearly marked Roundup: Dear Senator Green, There is a growing concern here on Hawaii Island regarding the mass spraying of Roundup along the public highways, both in residential and commercial areas. Today I read an article in our local paper saying you were voicing these same concerns. Hours after reading the article, I witnessed a County truck spraying Roundup with a high volume hose that shot a big jet out 15 feet or more, far more powerful than a garden hose. They were spraying along Highway 11 at lunch time, and cars were stuck behind them as they sprayed. The wind was blowing hard enough to make flags stand out straight from the pole, and as I stepped out of my car to take pictures, I could smell the chemical in the air. The wind was blowing the mist everywhere, and they were spraying in front of homes, businesses, and were heading up the the school area, where kids would soon be getting out and walking down that very stretch of road. In addition, none of the workers were wearing protective clothing. The Monsanto manual for use of this product states very clearly that it is a violation of Federal law to apply the product in any way inconsistent with the directions. The product may not be applied where persons can be contacted either directly or through drift. The product may not be applied where workers are not wearing protective clothing. This pretty much leaves out spraying on any public road, or by any buildings. They spray where there is not even vegetation, or where it does not create a safety hazard. They spray way off the side onto private land. They do it over and over every sixty days or so. The environmental and health concerns here are huge. If someone had a mind to, they could probably hire a risk assessment team, and determine likely damages for a class action suit. As for the citizens, I know of several groups formed to oppose this practice. I have reported these facts to the Road Maint. Office, and The Mayors office. I saw a letter from the Water and Soil Conservation Board recently passed to the County Directors recommending an end to the mass spraying. This is an issue whose time has come. Together with you support, I would like to see an end to this horrific spreading of poison in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We appreciate very much your taking up this issue. Now is the time for our local government to be proactive and do the right thing so we dont have to have people angry in the streets like Kuaui, and everyones energy can be spent in better ways. Aloha, Big Island Resident From: Big Island Resident Date: January 18, 2014 at 12:52:56 PM HST To: Josh Green M.D. Subject: spraying Hello Sen. Green, Attached is another photo of the spray truck, taken the morning of Jan. 17, 14. 1. Neither the operator, or any of the support workers on the ground had any type of protective clothing. 2. Cars and businesses were all being hit with drift, as the wind was blowing steadily that day. 3. School children walk that route daily, and school was due to let out in 1.5 hrs. The truck was moving towards the school. Further reading of the manufacturers manual reveals a requirement under the law for a 4 hr REI (restricted entry interval) during which only workers in protective clothing may enter, and all subsequent exposed clothing must be dealt with in a prescribed manner. The only legal way they can spay the road is to close it to all traffic. All of these rules are completely ignored in this photo. I have more photos and video, but they all basically show the same thing. Please let me know if I can provide you with any more of our community information on this. Thank You, Big Island Resident SEE YOU AT 1:30 OAHU ROOM 229!
