A Task Team is making a recommendation to add another year to a 3 year degree or Diploma due to the high drop out rate at University and Technikons. The question one should be asking is why is this happening rather than putting a band aid on the wound. The root of the problem one will find starts with the low percentage required to pass Matric and the "mahala bonus points" given to Black students entering for Tertiary studies.Tertiary institutions should be setting up an entrance exam of their own to gauge whether these applicants are worth their salt to register in any faculty as the value of the Matric certificate is questionable.
